Amina Rizk ; The artist
Amina Rizk Al Haskouri comes from Morocco and is resident in Abu Dhabi. She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art, (Baltimore, USA) as an interior designer. She took a job at the Duval and Hendrix Architect and Designfirm in Baltimore and participated in the restoration of the Baltimore museum in Maryland USA. Back in Morocco in 1986, she took a job as an interior designer in Casa Blanca with an architectural firm.
Starting married life in Abu Dhabi in 1988, she started drawing and painting to preserve the flow of her hand and had her first exhibition at the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi in March 1997 under the theme of “Colours and Faces ofthe Emirates and Morocco”.This was followed by her Ghutras of the Gulf exhibition at the “Eclectic” Gallery in Abu Dhabi in 2002, under the title “Headgear of the Gulf” which projected men’s headgear.
The success of this exhibition led her to commence works that included women from the Gulf. She started by concentrating on the different masks or Burgas of the Gulf women. She discovered that it forms part of the elegance of the Gulf and an iconic symbol of its culture. The present exhibition projects the different styles and colors of Ghutras and the different textures of the Burgas.
